Ghost – Tactical – and now for something completely different…..!
March 29th, 2021
GHOST is 62’ feet of turbine driven, high performance SWATH vessel with inherent shock mitigation from the hull form, shallow draft at 4 feet, with a low radar and visual signature, which offers tactical maneuverability in difficult sea states. Her hybrid turbine or electric drive offers both high speed and low speed loiter periods for an extended time if required. She comes with optional active drag reduction so her speed can increase with no added fuel/power. She has a large payload bay that accommodates 16 people and 2 crew which could also be used for large payloads.
So what’s she for?
Use your imagination –
An exotic ferry.
Oil rig supply boat.
Super cool party boat.
A security vessel for a private home or island.
Piracy prevention patrols.
Or simply for the craic!
Built by Juliet Marine in 2009 and powered by 2 x Lycoming T53 gas turbine engines delivering 1,800hp, she is fabricated from 8086 aluminium, her builders have solved the technical challenge of controlling small water plan area twin hulled vessels at high speed. GHOST is able to safely and smoothly transport people and payloads in bad weather with big seas at over 30 knots. Her original build cost was over US$6,000,000 and she can be transported, when disassembled via a tandem trailer.
GHOST is currently de-commissioned in Portsmouth, New Hampshire not far from our offices in Newport, Rhode Island. Her owner would be happy to help with the launching and commissioning of the vessel and we can discuss the associated costs with you should this be interesting.
Whilst conceived and built for military and commercial use, she could be used for privately – and how cool would that be?
Her revolutionary design eliminates pounding at sea, because the underwater hulls are surrounded by a thin layer of gas that dramatically reduces friction on the hull and delivers better vessel control. The key feature is the ability to generate enough gasses to create a boundary layer without reducing propulsion power.
GHOST stacks up well against the alternatives like helicopters or other high speed surface craft.
We can honestly say that we have never bought anything quite like her to market. To see her in action click here:
