Go anywhere, bluewater prepared cruising yacht LIARA is for sale
May 11th, 2023
Dixon 65, LIARA was built in 2002 by Southern Ocean Marine, of exotics, with structural engineering from High Modulus. She is one of a line of famous yachts called LIARA. She was conceived and built to cross oceans safely and in comfort, but also to be extremely fast. She has delivered totally and she has already an impressive number of nautical miles beneath her keel. Aside from the performance aspect of her design, it was also important that she would be easy to handle for family cruising and she certainly delivered.
Through her lifetime, LIARA has been substantially refitted and updated and her stunning mahogany interior, powerful rig with in-boom furling, large cockpit, twin wheels and practical deck layout have made her a successful cruising yacht. Bill Dixon’s lines look modern and contemporary today.
The current owners of LIARA loved her looks, layout and performance. When they bought her, she had full time crew aboard and her layout is designed to provide good accommodation for crew and 6 guests. They wanted to update her so that they could sail her around the world two handed without the need to have crew onboard, unless the crew were friends, joining for fun. They also wanted her hull colour to be white, so practical for the Tropics rather than her previous blue livery.
You can see how she looks in 2023 in this walk through:
So it was that in 2019, the full refit of Dixon 65 LIARA began – to fit her for this adventure. She had a full repaint in Matterhorn White, and all her systems were reviewed, updated or replaced. A Locomarine yacht router was fitted to make navigation easier, and the downwind sails were replaced with a parasailer which provides real power and which can be managed by a 2 man crew. The davits were replaced by Simpson davits that work well for small crews and the carpets throughout the yacht were replaced with lovely new mahogany soleboards. Of course these days, she has LED lighting throughout and there is a myriad of other small details for easy sailing and which provide LIARA with a high level of reliability.
Secure and easy anchoring is a vital part of any round the world cruising yacht’s armoury so LIARA’s 45lb CQR was replaced with a Rocna 55kg stainless steel anchor and 100m of Ketten-Waelder stainless steel chain. This chain has a much higher breaking load than traditional chain. At the same time the V4 Lewmar windlass was replaced with a V6 providing LIARA with strong and durable anchoring capability. She has a Fiorentino Parachute Sea Anchor as well as a drogue onboard. The updates and improvements to LIARA continue and she is in turn key condition.
Unfortunately, ill health has meant that these owners will not join LIARA for her world trip, although they continue to be engaged with the yacht so that she gleams
We are looking for a new owner for this special yacht. Someone that would enjoy a world trip aboard this fast, handsome and very practical magic carpet, on the basis that she has already been prepared to do the trip. There is flexibility on the asking price.
