History of Discovery 55, FLORENCE OF DART
In this ownership, FLORENCE OF DART has sailed the Atlantic and cruised the Caribbean, returning to Europe on the deck of a freighter courtesy of Covid. She has also cruised Channel Waters, Scotland and Brittany and has around 10,000 nautical miles beneath her keel. In her original ownership proved herself a very reliable and comfortable platform for long distance sailing.
FLORENCE OF DART has been meticulously maintained through life. The Discovery 55’ standard specification was always generous as Discovery aimed to deliver yachts fit for bluewater. FLORENCE OF DART has been updated significantly over the standard specification including a greywater tank, iridium, additional winch in the cockpit and she comes with many spares. She was repainted in Alexaseal in 2021 by Berthon and her owner has a zero tolerance policy for equipment that is not 100% operational and her maintenance programme reflects this.
Other updates include a reworked deck moulding incorporating flush hatches, a new wraparound saloon window design without external pillars or framing and a flush hatch garage and updated exhaust outlet for the engine room. The hull windows have been enlarged, providing more light in what is already a bright and airy interior.
Exploring the Accommodation and Deck Equipment of Discovery 55, FLORENCE OF DART
At 55 feet FLORENCE OF DART is the perfect size for a couple to cruise extensively aboard and she comes with a generous VIP cabin forward, generous upper and lower berth cabin and big heads compartment with separated shower. She has an oak interior with royal oak Amtico flooring. The effect is bright and warm.
FLORENCE OF DART is a Mark II Discovery and has a number of subtle updates on her more mature sisters, including an open saloon layout with raised seating and dining area to port with a clever midships seat which pulls out when in use and then slots back under the table when you are at sea with a robust handhold. To starboard there is a sofa which has a trotter box providing a comfortable berth when on passage.
FLORENCE OF DART has the Discovery Solent rig with self-tacking high cut jib and large genoa sheeted to the powered winches in the centre cockpit. She has electric in-mast furling and her front sails are controlled by a powered utility winch in the cockpit. This means that her crew do not need to leave the cockpit to handle the sails.
