Knierim FC53, NICA has come to Berthon International to lie for sale, and also to provide Bath Road in Lymington with a vibrant flash of colour. She was built in 2018 for the current owners, with plans for a circumnavigation.
They joined the ARC, and then over to New Zealand where the yacht lay ashore for a short while, as the effects of COVID-19 and travel restrictions stopped the enjoyment and the continuation of the trip.
During the fallow period, the owners decided on a new direction and have started planning, so Knierim FC53 NICA was reluctantly put on the brokerage market. She was shipped back to Lymington to lie for sale in our Customs Warehouse and is available excluding VAT.

The Knierim FC53 is a short run of custom yachts from Finot – Conq. NICA is hull #3. Built entirely in carbon (structure) she is a very strong, light and safe yacht for extended passage making, and with a scintillating performance to boot. 250 mile days are easily achievable and more, but in complete comfort thanks to her stored power sail handling systems, and ease of handling in the cockpit.
Water ballast adds more stability and righting moment to the yacht in open sea, and also has the added benefit of increasing displacement in rough weather, and decreasing in the light. Not only for the racing yachts.
Looking aloft, the Lorimar carbon mast has well aft swept spreaders, that are full width, so no requirement for a backstay. She has check stays for some added security while using the staysail. Not only is the mast carbon, but also the standing rigging, massively reducing the weight aloft, and again increasing righting moment, that in turn translates into reefing later, and less pitch and roll at anchor.
With her generous beam, deep keel and carbon rig, movement at anchor is a thing of the past. With the swing keel, intrusion into the interior is minimised (and cleverly designed) compared with the lifting keel and draft is a very modest 1.75m when the carbon fin is up inside the yacht.
The interior layout is very well designed for an adventurous couple, with a beautiful and spacious owner’s suite forward, and a huge double cabin aft on the starboard side. A workshop/ pilot cabin on the port side gives some flexible accommodation and plentiful storage for longer trips.
But most of all, the interior design is very fresh, with innovative textures and colours that gives a very modern, bright and airy living space, that is wonderful on a cold day in high latitudes or a baking day in the Caribbean.
