It has been yet another busy month for all the Berthon offices.
We are just out of the Annapolis Show where numbers were good and there was a lot of interest in our new yacht offering of Moody and Solaris, with a new sales contract already concluding and more in the offing. Motor yacht sales are also brisk both new and brokerage – the USA at the moment is flying.
The Italian market had a slow summer but now that Genoa and Cannes are over, there is a lot of sales activity with new listings and yacht buyers closing on sales now. With a balmy 28 degrees in Rome as we write, the good weather is maybe a help too.
Our Palma Sales and Service base is seeing more confidence in the market for sales and refit than was the case in the summer. Sales of recent and immaculate brokerage yachts are brisk but more mature yachts continue to be challenging, even when they are in great shape. We are finding that whilst there is a lot of interest and sales are coming through, many keen buyers are looking and hesitating to commit immediately.
In Sweden, the sun is shining for the first time this summer and this has extended the selling season also. We would normally expect new listings to tail off at this time of year but this has not been the case, and although the enquiry rate is low, the conversion rate is unusually high. Virtually all our sales are to international buyers.
Despite the biblical weather in the UK, we continue to list, offer and sell yachts and there is no sign of any winter slow-down, particularly in the motor yacht segment. As with Sweden, the enquiry rate is low but conversion rate, particularly with repeat clients, is very high.
