The Hallberg-Rassy 39 is a very popular model from the renowned Hallberg-Rassy yard in Orust, Sweden. Once again, the collaboration between Germán Frers and Hallberg-Rassy proved successful, resulting in a model that remained in production for over 10 years, with more than 200 units built. Boats manufactured between 1991 and 1994 are referred to as MkI, while the MkII version was produced until 2003. The most significant visual difference between these versions is the recessed stern with an integrated bathing platform found on the MkII. The rest of the hull, sail plan, keel, and rudder remain the same—why change a winning concept? AGGONDEE is an MkII version, hull #106.
The Hallberg-Rassy 39 provides excellent comfort with two cabins, a spacious saloon featuring a seagoing galley, a navigation area, and a well-lit, roomy toilet compartment. In the owner’s cabin, there are two separate berths with a central seat. Upon entering the boat, the U-shaped galley is conveniently positioned to starboard, offering optimal support to the chef, especially while sailing, without disrupting the boat’s natural flow.
The HR39 features a well-protected cockpit with the Hallberg-Rassy signature fixed windscreen, ample storage throughout, large stainless-steel tanks for water and diesel, and a hull design that ensures a natural, comfortable motion—making it an ideal choice for bluewater cruising. Hallberg-Rassy has a stellar reputation for interior woodwork, and the 39 model lives up to this standard. The light mahogany with a matte silk finish, combined with exquisite craftsmanship, imparts an exclusive, timeless ambiance on board.
This Hallberg-Rassy 39, AGGONDEE, was originally Swedish-owned and completed a transatlantic crossing with her first owner. She has been based in the US since 2018 and is now with her third owner. A new engine was installed just three years ago.
With her powered in-mast furling, electric winches, and extensive cruising equipment, this is the complete package—a very desirable, Swedish-built HR39. The perfect cruising boat!
After many years of searching for the ideal Hallberg-Rassy or Najad, I purchased this boat through Berthon USA in the summer of 2020 in Florida. We sailed her up the coast and have primarily based her in Connecticut, with cruises to Maine. She is a wonderful boat—easy to sail, great for extended stays aboard, and a capable seaboat.
