Sub 15m is definitely a bit of sweet spot in the market. This size offers a huge capability at sea and very high degree of creature comfort below decks, all while keeping the LOA under 15m which — helping with berth availability, handling, and overall running costs. Hallberg-Rassy are a highly respected Swedish builder of fine offshore and bluewater cruising yachts, and within their range the 48MkII was a resounding success, with 90 hulls built across the MkI and MkII.

ELK is a one owner, beautifully maintained and exceptionally specified example of the Hallberg-Rassy 48 MkII from 2016.

On deck, ELK is an easily managed yacht with spacious decks and a large cockpit. Her rig is fully hydraulic and operated entirely from the safety of the cockpit. She is equipped with two cockpit plotters, radar, and a comprehensive suite of Raymarine sailing instrumentation.

Below deck, she is classic Hallberg-Rassy: satin-varnished mahogany interior, teak-and-holly cabin sole, and fitted light-grey carpets complemented by mid-blue upholstery. She offers two double cabins and one twin cabin, a forward heads compartment with separate shower stall, and an ensuite in the owner’s aft cabin. The spacious, well-appointed linear galley runs aft.

In terms of equipment and inventory, there is little to add. ELK left the yard with a fully ticked options list: hydraulic rig, generator, air conditioning, heating, watermaker—she stands ready to take her next owners on their adventures.

Owner’s Comments

As previous owners of a Hallberg-Rassy 40, we were very much aware of the quality, great sea handling and company support of this marque. So, when we were considering a larger yacht, it wasn’t surprising that we chose another Hallberg-Rassy. We put much thought into the specification of the yacht, both for living comfort and bluewater sailing. We collected ELK from new in May 2016 and spent 3 months exploring the wonders of the west coast of Sweden and Norway, before crossing over to Inverness and through the Caledonian and Crinan canals to Largs. It was in Sweden that we visited the World Heritage Viking rock carving site in Tanum; the cushions in the saloon are made from material printed using photographs we took there. Since then, she has been kept in various UK marinas and also spent a year in North West Spain visiting several of the wonderful Rias. Unfortunately, our time in Spain was cut short by Covid, and we brought the yacht back to the UK. Since then, we have sailed on the South Coast of England, Channel Islands, Normandy and Brittany. ELK is a delight to sail and with ‘push button’ controls, my wife and I have found her very easy to handle with just the two of us, which has accounted for almost all of our sailing.

ELK has been extremely well looked after. The cockpit is covered with a sprayhood extension (when not onboard); varnished surfaces are covered with canvas to protect from sun and frost; chart tables are covered with non-slip pads when sailing. Internally, mahogany surfaces are protected by custom made PVC (nav station), canvas (table) and non-slip pads when sailing. She has been professionally maintained with annual services.

She is offered for sale as we have been sailing for 18 years and are now looking forward to doing more land based exploration. We’ll certainly miss her and we are sure she will delight a new owner.
