Broker’s Comments

The Heyman 42 PPH is a pilot house cruiser, designed by Gabriel Heyman who is also the designer of the renowned Fantasi 44, which, if you ask me, is one of the nicest-looking blue water pilothouse yachts ever produced. So, when I first came across news about his new Heyman 42 PPH project I was obviously very curious about what would come out.

The first time I saw the Heyman 42 PPH was at the Öppet Varv show in August 2024. The interest from the visitors was amazing, the line of people that wanted to have a peek was longer than at any other yacht and it never seemed to end.

I had the chance to get a personal showing with Gabriel early in the morning before the show opened. What a yacht! I could see myself cruising in comfort among the islands in Scandinavian waters at any time of the year or being anchored in a beautiful bay in the Mediterranean or sailing along the coasts of New England.

This Heyman 42 PPH, No1 stands out with its light turquoise hull and comes with a white Awlgripped Selden rig with electric in-mast furling. The sail plan is unusual in having a Code 0 permanently hoisted in front of the self-tacking jib – Heyman prefers to call this sail a ‘reacher’. Both headsails are on electric under-deck furlers by Selden.

There are no lines on the deck and all sail handling is managed from the cockpit. The jib and mainsail can be handled from either side. Deck and cockpit are covered with Flexiteek. On foredeck is a huge deck stowage with a ladder. There are two sunbeds for the foredeck.

The cockpit is unusually large, deep and protected, with table seating on both port and starboard, and there is a wide folding swim platform at the stern. This PPH is fitted with davits which lower the dinghy just abaft the folded platform, making it easy to move between the yacht and the dinghy. Just like the deck stowage, the cockpit stow rooms are huge, with room for bicycles, paddle boards or other paraphernalia.

At the forward end of the cockpit is a full glass bulkhead. Inside the glass doors, there are only two steps down, and both the saloon and galley offer a 360-degrees view. A person there will be at eye level and in easy contact with those in the cockpit. The side and front windows have insulated glass to keep the interior warm and silent.

Moving forward there is a ‘cozy corner’, a smaller seating area to starboard with an L-shaped sofa which can be used as a sea berth. To port is a guest cabin with a generous double berth, natural light, clothes locker, and a small bureau.

Further forward is an owner’s cabin a space which I think is unique in a yacht this size, with a queen size double berth turned the right way – with the head end towards the bulkhead, a proper padded headboard, easy access from both sides, bedside tables and plenty of storage.

This cabin has en-suite access to the heads on the port side, also with plenty storage, a separate shower, and a washing machine.

Quoted from the Designer’s Notes, at Heyman Yachts website

“The PPH is the first of its kind. There are other yachts which may be slightly reminiscent, at least in theory. But in basic proportions, in function and in character there is no other like her.
One of the most important goals of a cruising yacht design is to make a competent yacht with excellent performance, eager to cover distances. A nimble yacht with distinct handling, using well-established, durable technology.

But in addition, this new design had to offer a level of comfort matched by few, if any, boats under 55 ft. In order to get there, obviously she had to be different. In fact, even the concept behind the yacht had to be different.

The idea was about being on the water, with a view of the surroundings, under the blue sky and close to nature. Not only when you are in the cockpit, but also inside the yacht.

In order to access the loveliest ports or anchorages the PPH has a shoal draft keel, drawing less than 1.5 metres. This has been made possible based on extensive testing on keels and hulls at Chalmers University of Technology, including tank testing. Sailing performance is as good as any yacht of similar size with an ordinary deep keel.

So, what is she? A sailing yacht or a beach house?”

The yacht now offered for sale is the Heyman 42 PPH, No1 – hull number one.

As a result of the thoughtful build process, with the tooling and moulds being produced alongside, this yacht was given unusual attention to every aspect of her build and the build time was close to 12.000 hours. Nothing in the tooling or build process needed to be changed for the following hulls. In addition, she is unusually well specified, with her beautiful teak carpentry and a long list of extras.

Owner’s Comments

Following the creation of the beautiful Heyman 42 PPH has been a wonderful journey. Starting by diving deep into her design, then seeing the build, understanding how Gabriel Heyman, her designer, and the builders worked to make all details play together and then, finally, bringing this first PPH hull to life – this process has been nothing short of extraordinary!

Then, what a pleasure to sail this beautiful Heyman 42 PPH in the archipelagos of Finland and Sweden, through some of the most beautiful sailing waters in the world! The shoal draft and the high rig are a perfect combination; they allow you to catch the wind over the low skerries in the daytime, then when the sun sets to find an anchorage in a lovely little bay.

The designer Gabriel Heyman has created an extraordinary yacht, every detail is thought through and has a dedicated purpose. Her pilothouse with its 360-degree view makes one feel the closeness of nature’s surroundings. To wake up after a good night’s sleep in the queen size bed and see right through the yacht is breathtaking – you can even see the sea birds swimming when the aft platform is lowered. After a morning swim, the large and comfortable open cockpit offers you a lovely breakfast porch.

She is fast and capable, and seems to always bring a smile when the breeze kicks up. Ease of handling with all electric furling, with the reacher (a Code 0 permanently mounted) always at hand for a fast reach or downwind leg. She is easily handled by one person. Push-button they call it, but the PPH seems to take this concept one step further.

The joy of owning and sailing the Heyman 42 PPH can never fully be explained in a short text. It is with great sorrow that I have to sell her after such a short time due to changed family conditions. I can only congratulate the next owner and hope she is taken for many lovely sailing adventures.

In every harbour or anchorage, this PPH has attracted people with an eye for beauty. To be the owner has filled my heart with pride.
