The Swan 40 is a high-performance and timelessly beautiful yacht designed by renowned naval architect Germán Frers and built by the world-famous Nautor. Its classic, sleek hull combines performance and seaworthiness, making it optimized for both competitive racing and comfortable cruising.
BASTET is hull number 152—i.e. the 52nd Swan 40 built—out of a total of 58 boats produced between 1993 and 2003. She has the standard Swan white gelcoat single-skin hull, with Nautor blue gelcoat stripes and a glued-down 10 mm teak deck, which is in excellent condition.
Below deck, she features the standard layout: a V-berth forward upholstered in blue PVC, with a hanging locker, shelves, storage, and a small seat. To port is an en-suite head with a hand-held shower and vanity sink.
The main saloon has twin settees in blue cloth, a drop-leaf table on the centreline, lockers to starboard and a pilot berth to port.
Aft to starboard is the navigation station, with a desk and seat. Opposite, to port, is the longitudinal galley, equipped with a front-opening fridge, stove/oven, and a double inboard sink. The countertops are Corian. The spacious aft cabin also has an en-suite head, a double bed to starboard and a single bed to port.
BASTET has been in the same ownership since new and been well looked after, with many upgrades happening in recent years. She performs beautifully in both light and strong winds, and her balanced steering makes sailing an absolute pleasure. Undoubtedly, this is a stunning and high-quality yacht that stands the test of time.
I have mainly used BASTET for cruising, from Norway in the north to Portugal in the south, typically for eight weeks per year, with some short-handed sailing in the early years. Her large water tanks and motoring range of circa 600 miles, together with a good turn of speed under sail, make her an excellent and comfortable cruiser/racer. She has never been sailed without me on board, hence her outstanding condition.
