Introduced in 2020, the Swan 58 is a yacht designed for sailors who want a combination of comfort, safety, and high performance. Constructed by the craftspeople at Nautor Swan, this model was designed by the famous naval architect Germán Frers, with interior design by Misa Poggi.
With modern sail handling systems, the design makes it very simple to sail and manoeuvre in harbours – aided by bow and stern thrusters that negate the usual challenges of twin rudders and a single propeller – whether sailing shorthanded as a couple or with a family. Safety is a priority, making this arguably the finest yacht to set sail on.
Modern hull design makes yachts wider, as the evolution of hull form provides greater stability alongside the keel. This means they can be lighter, have a shallower draft, and carry more of the modern conveniences that make sailing all the more pleasurable.
COCO, hull number 15 from 2023, however, is not your average Swan 58 – far from it. Upgrades from the build are numerous and include:
COCO takes righting moment seriously and was specified from the build with a carbon rig, V-Boom, and EC3 carbon rigging. Do not fall into the trap of thinking it is like running racing slicks on a Land Rover; this setup increases the righting moment massively. In cruising terms, which means you can reef later, especially in gusty weather, while it significantly lessens pitch and roll at anchor with minimal pendulum effect. Service intervals are 5 to 10 years, with no need for replacement every 10 years just to keep insurance companies happy.
Given her wide beam, the interior is, unsurprisingly, rather voluminous, featuring plenty of storage capacity and a beautiful finish.
Please do enjoy reading the specification. You will note that this yacht has been very thoughtfully designed, featuring large water tanks, a washing machine, large-capacity lithium batteries (fitted by Swan), and an induction galley, meaning there is no gas on board to worry about.
The aft port heads have been converted into a much more practical tool storage area and workshop.
Grey caulking (so no hopping around in bare feet on hot days), air conditioning, huge fridge/freezer capacity, a watermaker, and more. Truly ready to go wherever the wind takes you.
