Oyster 49s do not come to the market often as owners tend not to let them go. They offer the perfect balance between size and ease of handling. They were built during Oyster’s heyday when cost was never a question but only the quality mattered. You only need to spend 5 minutes on board and even a layman could tell that the construction is outstanding.
YATTARNA does not show her 21 years and has been kept in immaculate condition by her current owners, with numerous upgrades still happening to this day. A new anchor and chain (stainless steel of course) are being installed at time of listing. Mast out in 2024, teak deck re-caulked in 2023 and a maintenance schedule that a Navy chief engineer would be proud of.
Her white gel coat has always been well maintained and with that grey boot top and waterline stripe popping out against her white hull, she will always turn heads. She is now ready for her next adventures, be that local Mediterranean sailing or worldwide cruising – YATTARNA is fully capable of keeping up with your imagination.
I bought YATTARNA because I had the desire to sail an Oyster from a very early age, and the equipment met everything I needed for a longer voyage. This included two autopilots, a watermaker, a generator, and sufficient tank capacity for water and diesel, each with 700 litres.
In October of my purchase, I sailed her from Ipswich to Mallorca, and while crossing the Bay of Biscay, I was able to see what a solid and safe vessel she is. It was always important to me that I could handle the yacht safely alone with my wife.
I actually wanted to cross the Atlantic, but due to time constraints, I had to limit myself to the Mediterranean, so in addition to the options around Mallorca, I also circumnavigated Menorca, Ibiza, Formentera, and regularly Sardinia.
The upgrades were mainly cosmetic: extensive Alcantara upholstery in the cabins, the replacement of all power sockets, and the replacement of all door handles with hand-stitched leather trim. Plus comfortable mattresses, a television, and the installation of a router.
What I love most about YATTARNA is her very comfortable and safe sailing characteristics. to this day, not a single creak can be heard from the interior.
In August 14th of last year, we survived a storm with over 60 knots of wind on Formentera, albeit with a lot of effort but we felt safe on YATTARNA.
The decision to sell YATTARNA was due to my wife’s desire for a larger yacht!
