The Najad 331 is an attractive cruising yacht, combining timeless Scandinavian styling, a well-planned interior and enjoyable sailing characteristics. Equally suited to coastal cruising and longer passages at sea, the Najad 331 is a capable and rewarding yacht to sail. Her fin keel and free-hanging rudder provide responsive, easy handling, while the hull design contributes to a pleasant and comfortable motion at sea.

Below deck, the thoughtfully designed interior provides accommodation for 4+2 people. At the foot of the companionway are the navigation station, heads and a practical galley. The aft cabin, located to port, features a double berth, while the forward cabin offers a traditional V-berth. The inviting saloon has two settees, both of which can be used as additional berths, together with a dining table with folding leaves and ample cupboard storage.

This Najad 331 PRIVATEER, is a rather special example. She was originally owned by a Norwegian company and when acquired by her first private owner, she needed maintenance and modernization.

The owner therefore embarked on an extensive refit, substantially improving PRIVATEER both technically and cosmetically to become more or less a new boat. The work included for example refurbishing the interior to a similar design as the Najad 332, new floorboards, new cushions and textiles. The original aluminium rudder shaft was replaced to one in stainless steel and a wheel steering system was installed in place of the original tiller.

Other new items include a new furling mast, head sail furler, main sail and genoa. The original 28 hp engine were replaced with a more powerful 39 hp Yanmar engine with conventional shaft drive, a new bow thruster, new electric and navigation equipment.

The current owner purchased PRIVATEER in the autumn of 2023 and has continued to maintain and modernize her to a high standard, with work carried out by Orust Yacht Service. Recent additions include new standing rigging, a lithium battery bank, inverter, solar panel, navigation system, camera in the mast and induction cooktop, among other equipment.

For anyone looking for a fully updated quality-built Orust yacht in the 33-foot class, PRIVATEER represents an interesting opportunity. Her extensive refit history, continued investment and impressive overall condition for her age make her well worth a closer look.

Owner’s Comments

I bought PRIVATEER in 2023 and have enjoyed sailing her round the Kattegat in the summers. She is a special example of the 331 with a beautiful interior that is probably nicer than many 332s and it will probably be difficult to find another example in this a good condition. I fitted her out at Orust Yacht Service with no expenses spared to be optimized for easy/short-handed cruising, with a powerful Mastervolt lithium battery bank and inverter, induction cooker, instant hot water, autopilot control and Raymarine camera display by the charttable. The more powerful engine/shaft drive installed by the previous owner makes motoring a pleasure – she will purr along quietly at 6 knots at only 1500 rpm.
