LYRIC is an extremely high spec X4.9, and has a fiberglass Furlerboom, generator, air conditioning, retractable bowthruster, watermaker, dinghy garage , Starlink, B&G electronics and Garmin 120 displays on the mast. With her new race faired and sanded underbody, extensive sail wardrobe and offshore safety gear, she is completely prepped for the buyer who yearns to do the 2026 Newport Bermuda race.
In recent years LYRIC has competed in the Marion Bermuda race, the Newport Bermuda race, and the Annapolis to Newport race with a crew of six. The boat has also cruised with a husband and wife crew given how easy to handle the X4.9 is.
All the necessary racing and offshore safety equipment is part of the sale package. This includes a full wardrobe of North, Quantum and Doyle racing sails (listed below), all required safety equipment, all required racing hi quality Spectra sheets and halyards including spare jib and spinnaker sheets
LYRIC comes complete with an Achilles dinghy and a Torqeedo electric motor that fits easily into the dinghy garage accessed through the electric drop-down swim platform. Plus, with its high sheer and generous beam, LYRIC is a large 49-footer for cruising and racing with an amazing amount of room providing 3 double staterooms, with a master forward and the two rear cabins have extra sea berths above the bunks.
The list of original options is extensive:
Starting from the bow, there is an anchor locker with an electric remote control. Behind that is a cavernous sail locker for fenders, lines, sails etc. With all halyards led aft, there is no need to go forward to control the sails, including the furling of both sails for cruising.
Wide side decks lead back to the large cockpit, with a dodger (one for racing, one for cruising) at the forward end. Midships is a drop leaf cockpit table, and then aft there is twin helm pedestals with black Carbon wheels.
Below is a forward master statement with a queen bed and ensuite head with separate shower. Aft of that is the huge salon with dining table to port. A U-shape settee wraps around it, together with a slide out bench seat on the centerline. To starboard is a straight settee.
Aft of that to port is a full-size galley with a generous freezer, fridge and three burner propane stove. To starboard is the full-size navigation station. Then, on either side are two after berths (doubles) with a pipe berth in each cabin to allow for two to sleep to weather when racing.
Extensive improvements and additions have been made to LYRIC by the current owner:
Approximate total (incl. installation) is US$100k.
After years of cruising in various powerboats, I had a yearning for performance long distance racing, but needed to find the right boat that served the racing goals, but also could be comfortably and easily cruised with my wife. The X4.9 fit the requirements and I was attracted to X-Yachts’ track record for being great performing and high quality well-built boats.
Their unique steel grid system is one of the many reasons X-Yachts is known as one of the few quality builders. Another is the fact that all water and fuel tanks are below the waterline, helping the X4.9 to be incredibly stiff. Not many boats these days can be comfortably cruised and raced at the highest levels. The X4.9 is one of them.
As the years move on, it’s now time for another powerboat. Given all the preparation for racing and our extensive cruising, LYRIC is a practically a turnkey boat for both cruising and racing and is therefore the perfect boat for the 2026 Newport Bermuda Race. There is very little preparation and literally nothing to purchase for a racing crew of six.
