Discovery 58, LUNA OF SARK, was the second of this great series of bluewater cruising yachts to come out of the Discovery Shipyard. To designs by Ron Holland, the Discovery 58 is bigger sister to the legendary Discovery 55. She has all the Discovery DNA and design features which made the 55 a benchmark cruising yacht – a genuine decksaloon, 2-handed sailing and handling, interior watch keeping, an excellent galley, and sleeping cabins. With around 40% more volume than the 55, the Discovery 58 has generous dimensions.

Always maintained in great shape, she has recently been significantly updated for this season and beyond, including all new batteries, solar array and covers, and much else. Unfortunately, her owner’s plans have been put on hold because of poor health so she is being quietly offered for sale. Here is an opportunity to purchase an outstanding cruising yacht with the benefit of a recent survey and absolutely no rough edges.

Owner’s Comments

Over the past two years, I had researched considerably and viewed a host of Discovery yachts. The Discovery 58 really stood out for me because she is so spacious, with around 40% more internal volume than her smaller sibling the Discovery 55. This makes living aboard so much more comfortable. Also, I liked the wonderful open walk through and uncluttered space of the aft deck.

After I had bought LUNA, I had her upgraded for my use. The work list is below –

• Lift out & fresh Navy Blue antifoul at Varadero, Valencia.
• 2 x Bowthruster propellers replaced new.
• 2 x Additional 110W flexible solar panels, new MPPT 100/50 (panels stitched into bimini in UK).
• Sprayhood clear screens replaced in UK.
• New super lightweight GS composite carbon passarelle.
• Extras, socket, hand rails, locks, bag, delivery.
• 12 x 2V all new BAE main house batteries (German).
• 2 x 12V all new Kaise bowthruster batteries.
• Complete set of Sunbrella cushions for aft cockpit, helm seats, G&T seats.
• New Raymarine Quantum 2 radar.
• New RescueMe EPIRB3 (programmed).
• New Ocean Safety life jackets x 4 with EPIRB locators.
• New Harken bosuns chair.

The Discovery 58 is perfectly set up for all types of shorthanded cruising. With her high-class Selden headsail furlers and her smooth furling ‘In Mast’ mainsail, she is so very easy to handle in all weather conditions. Importantly – she is equipped with two autopilots. As I wanted to sail shorthanded these features were very important to me.

I immediately loved LUNA when I saw her as for me, she was head and shoulders above all of the other Discovery yachts that I had viewed. Her previous owners were extremely meticulous and have kept her in superb pristine immaculate condition. Everything gleamed from stem to stern. She looks new (still does!). Aside from that, she is extraordinarily well equipped with an amazing inventory of spare parts. Furthermore, everything needed for liveaboard sailing is included… All the required safety equipment, bedding, linen, towelling, kitchenware, crockery, cutlery, glassware, cleaning materials.

Sadly, having only taken delivery of LUNA this year I am now having to be parted from her because I am 72 years old and I have recently had a health set back that requires immediate and possibly lengthy treatment.
