Broker’s Comments

VIVID is a Jongert 2700M, she was built in aluminium by Jongert to designs by Doug Peterson. She is a true bluewater sailing yacht (and unlike other Jongert models is not a motor sailor). She has 400 square meters of sail area and an easily driven hull shape. Yet by virtue of her hydraulic sail handling systems and the well thought out deck plan, she is easily sailed and managed underway.

I consider one of the yachts most interesting and practical features to be her well-protected semi-enclosed deckhouse. This provides a wonderful on deck living area that provides comfort and protection when needed and yet, opens to the elements when you want to enjoy some sea breeze. The aft deckhouse windows slide open hydraulically. Another unusual feature for a vessel of this size is he recessed tender storage in the foredeck that may also be converted to a sun-pad or pool.

Prior to the current ownership (who bought her in 2018) VIVID had two previous owners. She was with the same owner from 2004-2018 with a long-term captain and management team. The vessel was enjoyed for extended cruising (some of which were covered in articles in Boat International magazine). Throughout the period, she had good care and had a substantial refit/rebuild at Jongert in 2012, plus another refit in 2016.

After buying VIVID in Palma in 2018, the owners upgraded the yacht and prepared her for commercial use. The summer of 2019 was spent in the Mediterranean. In June 2020, the yacht headed to the UK and sailed the south coast area from the Solent to Cornwall. In the summer of 2021, they sailed to Scotland and back to the south coast later.

Each winter maintenance and upgrades were carried out. Full details follow in these specifications, but as an indication they included: new sails 2019; new batteries 2019-2020; new rudder 2019; new gen set 2019 (the other is from 2016); hull repainted 2020; upgraded / replaced navigational instruments 2019 and 2020; mast out and painted 2020-21 and new rod rigging.

In May 2022, the yacht returned to the Med where she sailed for the summer. She returned to Palma in October 2022 and was placed ashore from January to March 2023, partly for crew holiday and for service work and class survey. In April 2023 VIVID was launched, prepared for the Palma International Boat Show and the new season.

After the show she sailed to Croatia where she was based all summer – in private use and charter. At the end of September, she returned to Mallorca for her yearly maintenance work ashore over the winter, which included servicing and replacing the seacocks as well as cleaning and servicing the black water tank.

She was launched in early April and will be taking part in the Palma International Boat Show 2024.

Wherever you may be planning to sail, VIVID will take you there in comfort and safety and allow you to enjoy her exceptional sailing performance.

The former captain who sailed VIVID for many years says it well:

“VIVID is a very seaworthy boat that loves to be sailed. I have enormous appreciation for all the safe miles we have sailed and extraordinary owner’s experience that we have accomplished aboard VIVID.”

Owner’s Comments

Our search for a true bluewater cruiser with high margins of safety yet good sailing performance (and good looks) led us to Jongert. They were one of the few makes with a heated/air-conditioned deckhouse for sailing in extreme latitudes and weather conditions where family and guests, including non-sailors and infant children, could enjoy views and wildlife whilst remaining sheltered and safe. We also needed a yacht that had good charter potential. The 24m Jongert was simply too small, completely lacking the saloon and seating areas below decks. The 27m seemed the ideal size offering brilliant accommodation with a great feel and speed while sailing yet accessible to smaller marinas and anchorages. This extra size also provides for good crew and galley accommodation, storage and engine room access.

The downstairs saloon gives variety for dining options and the more formal evening meal is usually taken there with breakfast and lunch in the deck house. It also provides privacy when in a marina without being “on display” to people walking past, especially at night. The three cabins offer considerable comfort including a place to work in peace. Bringing her up to modern standards with a new interior, navigation equipment, sails, generator, rigging and a re-spray as well as a host of other improvements has been an enjoyable project and she is now in very good order.

The original plan to spend a year in the Mediterranean and then move to the Caribbean and then to the West coast of the US, sailing up to Alaska was completely destroyed by the pandemic but this did give the opportunity to bring VIVID to the UK in 2020 and spend the summer of 2021 in the Western Isles of Scotland, which was magical. Now back in the Mediterranean the reluctant decision has been made to sell simply because insufficient use has and is being made of the vessel. Jongerts are no longer in build and yachts of this type and quality are now extremely scarce. It is hoped she will find the enthusiastic new owners she deserves to enjoy the exceptional experience of owning and sailing VIVID and taking her further afield.
